About
My name is Nick Powers, and I am currently a senior at UMass Amherst majoring in Journalism, with a concentration in Sport Management. After receiving my undergraduate degree, I hope to enter graduate school to pursue a Masters in Marketing.
I have loved the sport of Boxing since 2005, when I first switched on HBO and saw “Countdown to Taylor-Hopkins II”, a build-up show that focused on a rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor. The two fighters’ war of words drew me in, and after watching highlights from the first fight, I was hooked. I remember that their rematch was the first PPV I had ever purchased with my own money, and even though it wasn’t the kind of fight that so-called “casual” fans like due to it’s technicality, I loved it all the same.
I have written for respected boxing websites such as 15 Rounds and East Side Boxing, which I am currently still working for as a co-host for a weekly internet boxing radio show called “On The Ropes”. The hostess, Jenna J, producer Geoffrey “Rumsfeld” Ciani and myself spend Monday evenings at 6PM eastern talking about the current happenings in the boxing world, interview fighters, share predictions, take fan calls, and much more in an effort that expresses our love for the Sweet Science.
